I have a ThinkPad E520, which has HDMI output, in addition to the traditional VGA. When I connect a HDTV via HDMI, I cannot get the monitor& TV to show the same thing, unless I set both to 1024 x 768. I can have separate displays at full resolution. Is there anyway to get both displays to show the same thing, without limiting resolution.
It purely depends on the monitor and LVDS you are using. If the monitor and the laptop screen don't give the very same resolution, no way to crone the output in the native resolution. See what xrandr says.
It works fine in Windows 7. The LVDS is pseudo 720p (actually 768 lines).
It's not called as "native resolution" :)
The HDTVs can handle 720p. As I mentioned, I can have W7 show the same screen on both internal & external displays using exactly the same hardware.
It's a piece of software, so everything is possible.
Boot into Linux and I can no longer do that, unless I want to switch to 1024 x 768. I have no problem setting up separate displays in either Linux or W7.
On Linux, the clone mode means the exactly same resolution over all outputs. It's why you get it only with 1024x768. Of course, you can set up LVDS in 1366x768 and HDMI in 1280x720 individually...
