What do I need to do in order to create keyboard shortcuts for applications?
Under windows I had a nice macro editor where I could define any key combination I like which would: 1) run an application if it wasn't open OR 2) bring that open application to focus if it was already running but just hidden or minimized
Thanks to some help I found on the menu editor where to add a keyboard shortcut. (If any SuSE developers are reading this I think it would be a good idea to have an "add" button next to the "none" button if no key combo is created. It wasn't intuitive at first looking at that to think the "none" button was the one to press). There is still a big problem though. The problem is once the shortcut is defined if you have the program already open and you select the shortcut again it will try to run another version. What I really want is a nice fast way to be brought to the application if it's open but hidden or else run the program if it isn't. For example I'm typing along in some editor and then realize I need to e-mail somebody. It would be great if without even leaving the keyboard I could just type "windowskey-M" and my mail program comes to focus. I don't mind running a third party tool in order to accomplish this if that's what it takes. On windows I always had a small macro program (perfect keyboard) running in the background to do this kind of stuff. Maybe there is a similar utility out there for Linux? -- Rick
