Content of the ~/.vimrc doesn't seem to matter.
doing ":colorscheme $whatever" does seem to change the display subtly, but it certainly doesn't do what it is supposed to (slightly different grayscale, if one squints and looks for it)
Checking a properly working 15.2 on another machine, I find that it has 8.0.1568-lp152.7.1
Downgrading those packages on the problem machine to 8.0.1568-lp152.7.1 works.
I don't have a bugzilla account (that I can recall). Should I try something there or...?
