I don't mean to be petty, but this is the kind of thing, ( a visible change from the way things were that has been ANTICIPATED for some time ) should've been announced on the list.
Hmm, IIRC, Bodo made an announcement about this. It was even mentioned in the Linux Weekly news: <A HREF="http://lwn.net/1998/1105/suseftp.html"><A HREF="http://lwn.net/1998/1105/suseftp.html</A">http://lwn.net/1998/1105/suseftp.html</A</A>> Maybe you have missed that one.
No one RTFMS, enough to notice these changes. I contributed to the faq myself, and I think that was one of the things I contributed, and even I, a dedicated S.u.S.E. user, missed out on this piece of news.
I agree on the point that no one RTFMs. Bodo's announcement was mainly about our new ftp-Server, not about the contrib-directory. Maybe this was the reason that this piece of information had slipped through...
Also, LenZ why, is the book not updated to show the changes ( minor I know ) in the YaST menu for rc.config? I noticed some options there when I put 5.3 on my system like the 'generate perl system includes' etc and 'beautify /etc/hosts' that weren't there before. I don't mean to be nitpicky, but I think the book should reflect the changes in the distribution, especially if the changes include something like a modified YaST.
Thanks for the hint. I've forwarded it to our manual author. But I guess you know, that development sometimes is on a faster pace than the documentation :) Best regards, LenZ ------------------------------------------------------------------ Lenz Grimmer SuSE GmbH <A HREF="mailto:grimmer@suse.de">mailto:grimmer@suse.de</A> Schanzaeckerstr. 10 <A HREF="http://www.suse.de/~grimmer"><A HREF="http://www.suse.de/~grimmer</A">http://www.suse.de/~grimmer</A</A>> 90443 Nuernberg, Germany - To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
