Hi Fred,

I Googled "SUSE Linux Error in service module" and found a few threads 
offering two explanations/solutions:

* a simple 'touch /var/log/lastlog' (no quotes)

At the grub boot menu, if you issue 'init=/bin/bash' (no quotes) and hit 
'Enter' you'll land in a shell with root permissions so you can try these.
