Exactly. And as for the "strain" when one member dies, how is this "strain" different than the daily thrashing of rsync? I have software raid 1, and raid 5 arrays where a disk has failed and the rebuild happened without any un-availability, and happened in the background such that the users were never even aware it was happening. I use Rsync between machines (some offsite) and raid 1 within a machine. I'm a belt and suspenders sort of guy.
