Hi ! Today I configured Hylafax/Susefax as root.
Since then it is impossible to launch modem connections (kppp + susefax) from individual users. As root still Ok.
Checked the files like hosts.hfaxd, etc/hosts is rw inittab checked but no result. Reconfiguring the users (access to modem allowed) in yast1 doesn't modify the situation. What the hell will I have done wrong (surely something but what ?).

Oh boy Jacek, I just went thru this same thing, so you are lucky! ;-) I installed the SuSEfax/HylaFAX combo and found it to be very good, but very much overkill for a desktop user only. Hopefully you can get it working some better than I did, but it should prove to be a very good fax solution. Your problem lies in the /dev/ttySx device permissions. When HylaFAX is installed, it also installs UUCP which gets ownership of your serial/modem device and changes the permissions to only the UUCP owner. Go to the /dev/ttySx (x being the number of your serial port assigned to your modem) as root and change either the owner or the permissions allowing you as a user to access the modem again. end of line Tracer -- ---KMail 1.3.1--- SuSE Linux v7.2--- Registered Linux User #225206 /tracerb@sprintmail.com/ *Magic Page Products* *Team Amiga* http://home.sprintmail.com/~tracerb
