google is special as it checking to figure up whhich geographical location your ip belongs to and then it will redirect to that server. For example since I am in germany google decided that I should do my seraches in German with google.de. So google is an exception

I would except that answer, except for the fact that Konqueror on the same machine has no delay connecting to google. Neither does my XP box running the same version of Mozilla.
