Dear fellow SuSE users, I am looking for your help and advice in the following matter : On SuSE 5.2, it has been very hard to get the XFree86 server up and running. My card is a Matrox Millenium PCI with 4M° Ram 220Mhz RamDac. Neither XSetup nor XConfig would generate a running server at first. I looked in SuSE support Database web site, DejaNews etc... Nothing worked until I ran SuperProbe and XSetup just afterwards. This time I could have evrything I wanted i.e. 1024x768 at depths between 16 and 32bits. When I have just done that, I can start any X session I want, quit, start again etc. All is not fine however, because after rebooting the machine (just normal reboot because I want to switch OS or whatever) and I try startx again, I get an error message stating my card cannot stand this resolution. It also appears in the error message like a generic card. I checked whether the links are right (following SuSE SDB advice) and it does not show anything wrong. Help and hints will be greatly appreciated as it is not much fun having to reconfigure the X system every time I start the machine :-( Albert P.S. I apologize for any misconceptions I may have on this issue, as you may have guessed I am new to Linux. -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
