That's 'cuz they need the money. They are trying everything to get back in the black. This year the have come very close and in fact next quarter guidance was that they would probably go out of the red. Now, given the UL is charging for corporate supports account and in some ways is similar to the plan Man is showing I don't find this suprising. One can always config there own firewall, so the deal here, I would guess, is to charge for "ease of use" and support. Frankly, I think Mandrake should have been involved with UL but I guess they're inclined to go it alone -- sort of like NATO (hehe). I hope they become profitable, I started out with Man 7.1 and cut my teeth with that distro. I left because of the *.mdk packages were to difficult to deal with in conjuction with generic packages and source. What really made be consider going to SuSE was the lack of support. I found their website difficult to use and it kept pushing me to buy into support and upgrades more than giving a clear direction related to support and upgrades. SuSE has them beat by a long mile IMHO which is why I have stayed with SuSE without a moments regret. I have though about trying another distro (RH or the lastest Man) on one of my other computers, but I just don't want to go through all the hassle of dealing with the little differences and the fact that I really don't like Gnome which is what RH defaults to and is geared toward. Man defaults to KDE but seeing how involved SuSE with the KDE development I just don't see the point of spending time monkeying around with KDE in Man. The part I find a little dubious is the statement - "business partners may change the software without requiring the changes to be published". I wonder if this is going to be a problem if parts of it are built on OSource codes. If this is the case I don't see how Man can allow people that buy their "corporate" firewall and then change the code without putting the changes into the public realm. This may not be a problem, but then again it could lead to a lot of hassles down the line if it crosses wires with OSource code base. Beside, given that SuSE has had a firewall out for some time it is probably better tested and engineered. Just MHO, Curtis. On Tuesday 17 December 2002 22:26, Fred A. Miller wrote:
