It appears that this behavior is not tied to the installer. I just THOUGHT it is the installer, since this was the first time I have seen this behavior.
Instead, it looks like it is tied to DisplayPort/KVM/nvidia.
The screen breaks when:
- Installer starts up.
- the computer is rebooted while KVM is switched to another computer. In this case, even the BIOS screen won't show up!!!
- KVM is switched to another computer while text mode is active (e.g. VT1)
Looks like communication between graphics card and monitor doesn't work properly.
Nay ideas/help?
BTW: this is an aten cs1924
Whether it is installer or KVM, the approach I have taken is to install and use the default nouveau driver (it is really really good -- unless you are gaming or using Compiz, etc...) After the initial install, and after you have confirmed your KVM behavior is correct, then add the nvidia repo and install the proprietary driver. You should be able to have the same behavior with Nvidia you had with nouveau. (you will also have the same performance in all by the high FPS apps) Give it a try and report back. I have a Quadro 3000M in my laptop and it works fine with/without Nvidia. (I do have it running on Nvidia not, just, well, just.... I was equally happy with nouveau) -- David C.
