IIRC, you have to open writer on its own before it will allow windowed use. This isn't particular to writer - calc got me. It is some gtk bug that for some reason won't allow windowed use until you open the app standalone. Don't ask me why or what Leap it hit me in, but it was a 15.x -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
