Hi: I have a ASUS A7V mobo running Suse 7.1. The 2.2.18 kernel appeared to work fine. But when the /etc/init.d/idedma script ran, it took a long time to complete. Don't really know enough yet to determine if DMA was really enabled or not. Then I tried the 2.4.0 Suse kernel. I thought it was failing to boot at all, because it gets hung up for a long time making error messages like this: Partition check: hda: hda: timeout waiting for DMA ide_dmaproc: chipset supported by ide_dma_timeout func only: 14 hda: irq_timeout: status=0x58 {DriveReady SeekComplete DataRequest} hda: DMA disabled ide0: reset: success hda1 hda2 .... But then the kernel continues booting. How can I fix it so: 1. It doesn't take several minutes waiting for timeouts before disabling DMA? 2. How can I get DMA to work properly for the IDE hard drive? Thanks. -- _______________________ Christopher R. Carlen Sr. Laser/Optical Tech. Sandia National Labs
