Strange, all modern apps should use fontconfig and xft. Unless you are using some really old apps, in which case you will need to modify ~/.Xresources.
There was one nice application I wanted back, okular, which was very good for studying with my etextbooks. Installing it required the reinstallation of much of the kde libraries. So far though, there are no problems with the hotkeys.
I seldom use Libreoffice. I just did a test, and I have no problems with switching to next/previous workspace in Window Maker with the keyboard. However: (1) I have rebinded all my keys in Window Maker. They all use the WIN key (Mod4- Super_L) as the modifier. This is to ensure that there is no hot keys conflict with any apps. (2) I am using the latest developmental version of Window Maker. There have been a lot of bug fixes. YMMV. As an aside, you might want to move to the latest version of Window Maker.
