I would stick with SuSe for many reasons despite RedHat been the standard. Standard doesn't mean better, if you are not convinced have a look at Windoze.

I really agree with you , maybe redhat it's the standard but from my experience isn't the best. The truth is that RH 5.2 has lost appeal to me and I rather use RH 5.1 or some derivation of it than the last 5.2. And as you say Standard doesn't mean better, I think it does mean, old, less able, minimun and this is to my taste incompatable with best or high performance. Vicente Werner

SuSE adopted the RPM format for their whole system.... However, in doing so, I believe that SuSE has an obligation to keep their RPMs up to date. Currently, they are not. Therefore, I have resorted to installing new software using Red Hat RPMs. I could install the tarballs, of course, but I find that installing RH RPMs on SuSE is easier (most of the time it just involves a symlink or two).
I find this lack of attention from SuSE a little frightening. I've been using rufus.w3.org since SuSE says nothing about new RPMs (only bug fixes) on their web site, and most of the SuSE RPMs there are already out of date.
Could I get some feedback from the people on this list re: how much of a problem/issue this is? As I said before I don't currently use SuSE but am planning to try it out. I had gotten the impression somewhere that SuSE was actually better at staying on top of things than Red Hat, but this indicates otherwise. Comments?
