In opensuse 13.1, KDE 4.11.2, when I attempt tp open kontact it segfaults.
Background: Due to a compromised file(s) in the ~/.kde4 folder kontact had to be removed and re-installed. I first used Yast2 for the re-install. Upon attempting to open kontact it displayed a segfault message. I then deleted kontact and re-installed through the online search (http://software.opensuse.org/search) system but had the same results.
During both install sessions I also performed a system restart to avoid any other problems. I also logged out and back in of KDE several times.
Segfault bug has been reported to bugzilla as bug 861725.
Any suggestions or ideas why this is happening?
Thanks, Tom
There were several Kontact problems in that version of KDE, and kontact/kmail didn't become useable until very recently. I would switch to using this repository for all of kde:
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/411/openSUSE_13.1/
That will get you up to 4.11.5 which is very clean. (You might have to tell yast to tell it to allow vendor changes the first time, I'm not totally sure). Note: There is also this repository for Kde 4.12, but I hesitate to recommend it because I haven't tried it myself.
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/412/openSUSE_13.1/ It seems to me that Opensuse kept those two repositories separate for a reason, and I haven't had the time to try the newer one yet
Deleting a single piece of KDE (which is what Kontact is) isn't the best practice. Its an entire suite, and should not be micro-managed in that way. Another test would be to create a new users account, and see if Kontact runs for that user. If not, it suggests even more is wrong than just a directory structure. -- Explain again the part about rm -rf / -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
