Hello, Would you please check the following to see if this would be the correct procedure to get a small server up and running with the kernel optimised for an Athlon T-Bird?? I ask because I am not having too much joy here - the initial installation works fine, the optimisation does not. (As I was playing around with different permutations I did not record the exact errors, related mostly to PAM ... mumble mumble) Procedure: New machine, DFI AK75-EC mobo, 256MB RAM, 1.2G T-Bird, IBM 40GB IDE, blah blah. Install 7.2 Prof, 'Default System' YAST2 -> Software -> Install/Remove -> zall -> kernel-sources -> OK cd /usr/src/linux make cloneconfig {to create .config ??} make xconfig -> load .config file -> change ONLY the CPU settings to Athlon/Duron -> Save and exit make dep make bzImage make install make modules {is this necessary as no modules change ??} make modules_install TIA *** If you find a solution and become attached to it, the solution may become your next problem. *** Powered by SuSE Linux 7.2 Professional Registered Linux User Lourens Steenkamp Republic of South Africa _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
