One uses PPPoE if that is the protocol the service provider uses to connectclients to the DSL service. It allows them easier management of the service. It is just PPP (that is used in many cases to connect dial-up lines) that is run over the ethernet connection. Some don't use this, such as yours. Recently I heard of some providers using PPTP (whatever that is) to provide DSL. On Sun, 04 Feb 2001, S.Toms wrote:

I got a weird question pertaining to DSL, I've seen this type of conversation before and didn't understand it. My DSL is connected with an ethernet ETH connection and works quite well. What kind of DSL requires PPP (more to the point pppoe) in order to work?
