I typed 'su -' to log in as superuser and to run ATI Driver Install to generate distribution specific drivers (SUSE 10 64-bit; ATI X800XL). All went fine. I typed 'rpm -Uhv *.rpm' to install the RPM-file. All went fine.
Then 'sax2 -r -m 0=fglrx -b /usr/share/doc/packages/fglrx/sax2-profile' to configure the driver with sax2. Sax2 started and I chose the best resolution there was, got to the test-screen where I clicked OK and then everything froze. CTRL+ALT+Backspace didn't work. CTRL+ALT+DEL didn't work. I did a hard reboot. The machine started with the ATI drivers but with a resolution that would make 640x480 look good. And the mouse acted wierd too.

and replaced the corresponding sections in /etc/X11/xorg.conf file with the above. Then I restarted the machine and everything works fine for me (though I can't watch my TV/Video card anymore, and I haven't tried to change resolution through sax2).

I ran the ati driver install script and now I dont have any of my wide screen modes available (I especially liked 1440x900)
Below is my new xorg.conf file.

Just curious, did any of you guys try running fglrxconfig from a shell to setup your graphics? I didn't have any luck trying to use sax2, but fglrxconfig worked nicely and wrote a new xorg.conf. It's a bit long and certainly not as pretty as sax2 to use, but it will work. regards, Lee -- -- KMail v1.9.1 -- KDE v3.5 -- SuSE Linux v10.0 -- Registered Linux User #225206 Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.
