Well, if your talking about RH 9.0 then yes it's got much newer versions of a lot of the packages including X and the kernel, but I'd bet it's not the amount of RAM that you have that's making the screen go all wanky. It's the Radeon card. I have and have had 1.5G of ram in my machine since 7.3 was current and I didn't have any issues that were caused by the amount of memory. I would say that the first thing to look at is the Radeon card and the second may be that your motherboard has a setting that's making it puke...but I doubt it.
