Pete, I have have updated (7) 10.3 boxes to 2.6.22.19, (3) of them with nVidia cards (FX5700 Ultra, two 8600GTs), and, knock-on-wood, no problems as of yet. Two things come to mind. First, it should have happened automatically, but there nVidia driver kernel module may not have updated -- if you are not using the open source "nv" driver. Second (for reasons unknown), there may have been a problem with the kernel install. Neither seem likely, but absent any other changes, seem like the most logical places to start. First look at the logs and see if anything jumps out at you. Look back in time just before the lockup. The easiest way to do this is look for the beginning of the boot process. The first line will be syslog-ng starting. Similar to: Oct 22 21:52:07 ripper syslog-ng[2383]: syslog-ng version 1.6.12 starting Then just look back in time 20 lines or so and see if anything stands out. Next, I would reinstall the nvidia driver is you are using it. Just use the one-click install at: http://en.opensuse.org/NVIDIA Finally, I would reinstall the kernel, kernel-source and kernel-syms. The way I would do it is to go to: http://download.opensuse.org/update/10.3/rpm/ Choose the right architecture for you machine and download the full 2.6.22.19 kernel, kernel-source and kernel-syms to a temporary directory on your machine. (DO NOT JUST DOWNLOAD THE 2.6.22.18-2.6.22.19 PATCH FILES). Then, as root (not sudo, but actually root) install the new kernel with: rpm -Uvh --force kernel*.rpm Then reboot and run some more and see if it is fixed. If not, then repost and we will work some more. This is an overview of how I would approach trouble shooting the problem. The logs are the first place to start. Others may have other ideas for you before you reinstall all the software, but if this didn't start until the kernel update, then this is how I would start. Good luck. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E.
