Thanks, a quick look makes me think the last of those urls will be the most help to me.
Using that I was able to rough one out: http://fm.no-ip.com/Share/xorg.conf.inteldual03 I'd never tried using or configuring multi-head before. Using a CRT on VGA "above/over" and HDTV on HDMI "below/under" I have a 1920x2040 desktop. It needs tweaking to suit my taste, but it's functional. lspci, hwinfo & xrandr output: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp Device 3103 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 43 Memory at fe400000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M] Memory at d0000000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M] I/O ports at dc00 [size=8] Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] Capabilities: [90] MSI: Enable+ Count=1/1 Maskable- 64bit- Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [a4] PCI Advanced Features Kernel driver in use: i915 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) Subsystem: Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp Device 3103 Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0 Memory at fe900000 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=1M] Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2 # hwinfo --gfxcard 10: PCI 02.0: 0300 VGA compatible controller (VGA) [Created at pci.319] Unique ID: _Znp.UR73A_8jm35 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:02.0 Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "Intel 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x2e32 "4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1565 "Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp" SubDevice: pci 0x3103 Revision: 0x03 Driver: "i915" Driver Modules: "drm" Memory Range: 0xfe400000-0xfe7fffff (rw,non-prefetchable) Memory Range: 0xd0000000-0xdfffffff (ro,non-prefetchable) I/O Ports: 0xdc00-0xdc07 (rw) IRQ: 43 (no events) I/O Ports: 0x3c0-0x3df (rw) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d00002E32sv00001565sd00003103bc03sc00i00" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: i915 is active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe i915" Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown 11: PCI 02.1: 0380 Display controller [Created at pci.319] Unique ID: ruGf.+tUh3qRN2hA SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.1 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:02.1 Hardware Class: graphics card Model: "Intel 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x2e33 "4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1565 "Biostar Microtech Int'l Corp" SubDevice: pci 0x3103 Revision: 0x03 Memory Range: 0xfe900000-0xfe9fffff (rw,non-prefetchable) Module Alias: "pci:v00008086d00002E33sv00001565sd00003103bc03sc80i00" Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Primary display adapter: #10 Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 2040, maximum 8192 x 8192 VGA1 connected 1280x960+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 396mm x 297mm 1280x960 85.0*+ 60.0 1600x1200 85.0 + 85.0 75.0 70.0 65.0 60.0 2048x1536 60.0 1920x1440 75.0 60.0 1856x1392 75.0 75.0 60.0 60.0 1792x1344 75.0 60.0 60.0 1920x1200 84.9 74.9 59.9 1920x1080 60.0 1680x1050 84.9 74.9 60.0 1680x945 60.0 1400x1050 85.0 74.9 74.8 60.0 60.0 1600x900 60.0 1280x1024 85.0 75.0 60.0 1440x900 84.8 75.0 59.9 1366x768 60.0 1360x768 60.0 1280x800 84.9 74.9 59.8 1152x864 75.0 1280x768 84.8 74.9 59.9 1024x768 85.0 75.1 75.0 70.1 60.0 HDMI1 connected 1920x1080+0+960 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 700mm x 390mm 1920x1080 60.0*+ 60.0 50.0 1920x1080i 60.1 1680x1050 59.9 1680x945 60.0 1400x1050 59.9 1600x900 60.0 1280x1024 60.0 1440x900 59.9 1280x960 60.0 1366x768 60.0 1360x768 60.0 1280x800 74.9 59.9 1152x864 75.0 1280x768 74.9 60.0 1280x720 60.0 50.0 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
