I have down loaded the ISO files and used an ISO burner to burn them to CD. I made the first CD bootable.
You should've skipped that part. The prebuild isos are bootable without any user action.
What does that mean and what do I need to do to install SUSE on my machine?
If you don't want to burn another set of discs you could try a boot-floppy bootup with installation source from your CDs. This list isn't meant for problems like yours.
