About a dozen lines or so after starting the install, I encountered the line "Starting udev ..." and the installation hung. (Reported as bug 229217 and unresolved. The status is 'Needinfo', but there is no way to get a log file.) This occurs with both the DVD and CD1.
I could debug a similar problem in a curious manner. It was not on my own copputer but on the one of a french mailing list, owner by a newbie, so the logs are not so clear. the system had two sata drives and one ata dvd writer. It had also 4 sata connectors. The solution was to activate RAID in the bios (I never understood why), this activated the 3 and 4 connectors and the sta drives connected there where recognised by the 10.2. seems to have been a conflict between the sta drives and the ata dvd writer
