Hello Richard, take a kind look i. e. here 1017461* (bugzilla of openSUSE, quite new): Given the risk I repeat myself: I haven't seen a anyhow comparable amount of FS problems for ext4 than for btrfs recently. Fact. You cannot argue on this. The net is full of such stories. I have seen issues on a bunch of computers I am maintaining, all related to btrfs. My personal experience. You can argue on this, but I would not rise my voice to just hear me talk. I haven't seen similar issues on ext4. Never. My machine runs 24 x 7 since years. And whatever you tell about nice "technology by powerpoint" stories about shiny theoretical features of btrfs: the problems I observe would not have occured in case ext4 would have been the default. And you don't have to argue about fsck'ing a filesystem that is mounted - I do not know how this came into this discussion, I would never do this and I have never done this. I am running leap, so do my friends and my family because we want a system to be useable not requiring extra maintenance. With a stable basis. You can provide tons of explanations, you can allegate to me whatever you want, I will keep saying that ext4 is the better choice for a "normal" user and therefore ought to be preferred. What big amount of work is introduced by simply switching the default choice in YaST and in the installer is not apparent for me. And, at the end of the day: making backups is mandatory anyhow, whether the system has a snapshotting option or not. That's about all what is to add here. Have a nice day Dieter Jurzitza *) I hear you already say this is not a btrfs problem. No, it is. Because if there was no btrfs, there was no such problem. btrfs is increasing system complexity because it comes with this and that tool, with this and that configuration, all increasing the risk to loose data at the end of the day.
