Reading in /etc/cups/client.conf, I saw a reference to the environmental variable CUPS_SERVER. I exported CUPS_SERVER=localhost and, while I still get no output, I am no longer getting the message about no printer service found.

Hi Dave, it is a java and cups related problem, not limited to Maple. Move to the folder /etc/cups and, as root, open the file printers.conf. For each printer listed, before the line </printer>, add the line: Option orientation-requested 3 It is the lack of a default orientation the origin of the problem. Regards,  Francesco

I added the line "Option orientation-requested 3" in front of the line "</printer>" and rebooted suse, but I still get the no printer service message.

I just installed Maple 12 on 64-bit Suse 11.0 and everything worked great until I tried to print. All attempts to print in Maple result in a "No printer service found" message, although printing works for OpenOffice 2.4 and pdf files via lp command.

Googling I found this to be already known problem apparently fixed by replacing the Java Support in Maple 12 with Suse 12 Java files.

I checked the Maple FAQ; the suggested workaround does not work and I submitted a support request to Maplesoft.

Does anyone have any more info about how to fix this problem?
