I would highly reccomend looking at AnandTech's review (not the orgasmic *pre*view ;)) of the K6-III, which can be found here: <A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/html/review_display.cfm?document=363"><A HREF="http://www.anandtech.com/html/review_display.cfm?document=363</A">http://www.anandtech.com/html/review_display.cfm?document=363</A</A>> In it he explains the significance of the K6-III's cache dance and gives a few pages of comparative benchmarks. The same site will give you a good starting place for comparison shopping for a new mobo. Tom's Hardware also has a review (of sorts) of the processor, but I often find myself questioning Tom's intelligence and understanding of computer hardware, so I don't reccomend it (although he didn't do a bad job with the article I'm referring to). Besides, Tom's writing style is seriously irritating. >:) j -- -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.12 GH/IT d(--) s++: a-- C+++ UL+> P+ L++ E W++(-) N+ o> K- w O M V-- PS+ PE Y+ PGP t+ 5++ X R tv b++ DI+ D- G e>> h-- r y+ ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ www.geekcode.com On Tue, 23 Mar 1999, Curb Crusher wrote:

The reason for my inquiry is because in the mags Intel always fares much better in the bench tests, while AMD users tell a somewhat different story. Now why is that?
In my experience, Intel processors seem to do better with floating-point calculations, which translates into a somewhat better gaming experience (more fps). Otherwise, I don't think there is any advantage.
Feel free to correct me if you feel I'm off the mark. (K6-2/300 owner)
