Hi! I had similar problems with Pine & Sendmail. After some upgrade to Sendmail, I've noticed that my emails are not reaching certain destinations. Not wanting to get into cryptic Sendmail configuration, I moved to qmail & Mutt (I also use several identities via muttprofile script) and don't want to look back :-) The Dave Sill's book Qmail Handbook is/was very great help, but you can also try www.lifewithqmail.org.
Problem 2. I can't send mails from kmail! I set it up normally as in 7.2, my smtp server, and can't get it to work... Please help!!
