Up until last night I was able to print files to my epson compatable
STAR printer using kedit (KDE). I installed StarOffice and tried to
print a document, no go. I then ran yast and found that I could not
configure my dot matrix printer to be used as a postscript printer,
yast said I needed to install ghostview. I next installed all the
related ghostview (gs) programs and yast now lets me configure the
printer. I select epson and /dev/lp1. Tried printing from kedit and
garbage comes out of the printer. I played around with a few other
printer type (STAR is suppose to be compatable with IBM Pro) without
good results. Currenty when I print from kedit the output to the printer
is sideways with 2 pages printed per page using very tiny font. Nothing
happens when I try to print from StarOffice.
If someone is using either a STAR NX1000 or Epson (LX800) printer
with success please email me how to set it up. Also, I have RedHat 4.2
on another partition and had this printer working correctly for kedit
and StarOffice. I tried copying RedHats /etc/printcap to SuSE but this
did not work. I'm running SuSE 5.2.
Thanks
Terry
