1) a file system that does support LFS (ext2 does, ReiserFS does not) 2) applications compiled or fixed to work with LFS
AFAIK, ftp and samba did not support LFS on SuSE Linux 7.0. We are working hard on enabling LFS on more applications for the next release. Sorry for the inconvenience.
