simply do not delete old categories, only add new ones. they can be any number of categories in the same page
You read fast, but in this case not thorough, Jean :-) Deleting category is not mine, it is automatically emptied if articles are listed in another. Only text explaining category is manually edited removed. If there was no text on category page it will be removed completely.
Putting "Browse openSUSE" link in the left frame or/and top line of every page would improve users ability to find, read and edit wiki content.
is that "Opensuse:Browse" ?
Yes, but as a link it would look better as "Browse openSUSE"
the name of this page is not so good, should be "brose by categories"
My guess, "Browse by Categories" is wikimedia default, and "Browse openSUSE" is just another way to tell the same.
and this page must be manually edited, so it can be out of date
It should be automatic index too, kind of category of all categories. If one wants to make the page with the same or similar content and to edit manually is nice, but think first about the resources. Look at http://dmoz.org/about.html, about the problems how to handle indexing that arise with growth of the information source. As mentioned in previous article:"This doesn't exclude or eliminate need for manually maintained indexes, but makes content accessibility maintenance easier." -- Regards, Rajko.
