Each one has the same problem, the gdm login screen does not fill the screen but is displayed leaving a margin on the right and bottom of the screen. The task bar then takes up position according to that screen layout. Firefox occupies the whole screen when the expand to full size icon is clicked covering up the task bar. Openoffice wiil not expand greater than the login screen's original size. Control centre screen resolution shows only 1024x768 available in the Resolution settings. Rebooting with run level 3, logging in and then using "startx" everything is perfect and the required resolutions then become available in Control centre screen resolution. This works if /etc/sysconfig/videobios VIDEOBIOS_PATCH has the setting at either yes or no. Luckily I can demonstrate to these, hopefully, Linux converts that Linux is worth persuing because my HP with a bottom of the range ATI works perfectly. Any ideas, anyone? -- Dave Cotton -- The available solution is in the openSUSE 10.3 Release Notes: Older Intel Graphics Chips Older Intel graphics chips are supported by two drivers ("i810" and "intel"). The intel driver is the default on openSUSE 10.3 due to the high demand for features like native mode setting (no longer VESA BIOS based) and RANDR 1.2 support. When updating to openSUSE 10.3, the i810 driver is not exchanged with the intel driver. Use "sax2 -r" to switch to the intel driver. The intel driver is still not as stable as i810; use "sax2 -r -m 0=i810" to switch back to i810, if you encounter problems that did not occur previously with the i810 driver. In those cases, consider to open a bug report against the intel driver. ---------- Hope this helps.
