For that, take a look at cacti and/or nagios.
Which one is easier? :-)
They serve different purpose. Nagios is primarily monitoring tool - it collects metrics and can trigger reactions based in these metrics. Cacti is primarily long term graphing tool. It collects metrics, stores them persistently over long period and can draw pretty graphs from them.
There are nagios plugins to implement cacti functionality; I do not think opposite is true.
I will go with cacti, then. I had a second look at <https://en.opensuse.org/Cacti> and will try it. First at my desktop machine, where mysql and apache are alread running. Then, if I succeed and like it, I'll move it to a 32 bit laptop without battery that acts as server full time. Maybe, a second step, could split the capture section to the laptop, and the analysis to the desktop, which is way more powerful. Dunno if possible. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
