faks on linux

Hi, I am using suse 9.0 on workstation via suse 9.0 gateway to internet. Is there an application that you can send a fax created on your pc directly to a recipient fax machine? Even better does a application excist to send and receive faxes on your pc? Can this be done via the gateway as above? If so which pc will take the call and fax?
