If your development source tree is huge, that is EXACTLY why you need baloo. I use this all the time on my source tree, and its marvelous to be able to find stuff.
I doubt I will use the indexing. I have never found it a useful thing. And when the index itself gets over 1GB, it's perhaps time to index the index... Anyway, I will see if the excluded directories improve things. My laptop is not appropriate for this sort of thing.
