Sandy, I followed your guidelines regarding Qt and KDE upgrade and it have worked fine for me... so far at least. I don't have a clear clue of what causing your problems, but I would state that it can have to do with something else then Qt as well. One way of dealing with it would be to try locate what packages that are involev, besides qt an d kde, remove them and start all over. I have for different reasons installed my SuSE 5.3 about 10 times on 3 different computers since I got it some months ago, and that have been a very good experience to learn from. Of cause it's more critical if you don't have the space to experiment with it, but are dependent on only one working system... but as HD's is so cheep today... well, maybe not much of a hope for you (I don't know how experienced you are wiith Linux), but failures is the one of the best sources to greater understanding and gain of knowledge. I hope someone more experienced then me can give you more detailed advices. Joakim andy wrote:
After removing the Qt 1.31 packages with YaST I installed Qt v1.41. All seemed to go weel until I rebooted the machine.
Now there's an untold amount of sh*t that gets printed as soon as the x-server and a window manager load. The printing appears to be what I'd call "printer code." Mostly pages of the letter "F."
The first page starts out with: [quote] %!PS-Adobe-1.0 %Creator: Qt 1.41 %Title: Unknown %CreationDate: <whatever is appropriate for the time of printing> %Pages: 2 <that's a damn lie!!> %DocumentFonts: <font style stuff> %EndComments
% Standard Qt prolog [end quote] (and then it goes on for over 20 pages)
It's a hell of rush to get qps open and kill every sign of "lp" or anything else that resembles a print job, before it eats another half ream of perfectly good paper.....
Any ideas how to make this stop? Any ideas as to what's causing it? I really need to get this stopped ASAP.
I glimpsed a "new" line scroll by during boot up that was greenis in color, compared to the gray on black. Dunno what it said, nor if it's even important.
The only other change I made, besides the Qt upgrade, was to install the KDE rpm's from SuSE tied to Qt 1.41.
Appreciate your help and suggestions. Otherwise send me a beer......
