I have copied the DVD to a partition and shared that nfs. I can boot the client and point to the nfs drive. It sees the media and starts the install. Everything goes fine until package selection, then it can't figure it out...... So, according to the post I responded to, the is a problem on the DVD's themselves. I would expect that if the ftp version works with a network install, I should be able to find non-broken config files that are failing on the DVD and replace them. It would be nice to know EXACTLY what is required for YaST to figure out package selection..... filename, content, permissions, flags, etc. B-) On Monday 08 November 2004 03:57 pm, Mike McMullin wrote:

want to install 9.2 from DVD on a machine that doesn't have a DVD reader. On a machine that does, I set up vsftpd and then started a manual install from CD on the machine that doesn't. I was able to start the install (in text mode) and get as far as the first few YaST screens (GUI), but then he said he couldn't read the software selections.
Any suggestions?
I had the same problem, had to install from cd's...
Sorry for piggy backing this on your article Brad. I think what you both want is the network install, which has worked for me on 9.0. You need to export the DVD drive as NFS. You'll need to know what the network address is and path to the DVD drive as you would need to mount it NFS on another machine. You'll want to load your nic-module on the target system. It's pretty forward, and I chose the default install for software, but did custom partitioning.
