upgraded to 12.1 with a clean install and decided to use swap encryption since it seemed to have matured enough.
I let the box run overnight to do some small jobs and later found it doing mad, massively insane swapping with no jobs running.
Did you check the memory numbers, e.g. in 'top'? I guess you must have had access to the box as you know there were no jobs running.
bad disk, ja? but smart says all is good,
Do you have reason to suspect the disk? Is it SATA/PATA and 5 or more years old? If the disk is suspect, try running a long smart selftest and see what that says.
i made another clean install on another disk & exact same thimg happens. afteR more checks, notice that disk access for both disks is slow & system complains disks can't dma. smart still says all is good. even after going back to plain old swap, both disks do mad seeks & bang about and won't do dma.
Sounds more like a motherboard/hardware problem. Check the dmesg outout for suspicious/unusual messages. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (12.6°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
