So my OpenSuse 10.2 crashed on me. I had amaroK,GTK-Gnutella, GAIM, and Firefox open. My computer froze (this is new to me) and I had to hard reboot it. When it started, two things didn't work (that I know of).
1) KPowerSave won't start. This is my error message: System configuration startup check disabled.
Known bug. YOU patch planned. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=225212 Install package from here if you can't wait for the official YOU patch. http://beta.suse.com/private/dkukawka/kpowersave/0.7.2pre/
Also, what can cause OpenSuSe 10.2 to freeze? What can I do to prevent it from freezing/crashing? If a freeze does happen, what steps should I take to prevent errors. If errors happen, what can I do to recover? Thanks all.
For example, the ATI binary-blob driver has problems with the screen-saver. You can't go back to the desktop when that happens, but the computer still runs.
I have a Toshiba tecra M2 laptop running suse 10.2 with nvidia binary blob 1.0-9631 (Hey, I want good graphics performance OK?) and it works better than any previous distro, with sound and wireless all good, and it plays quake 3 arena quite nicely. I've had it running for many days now, and when it blanks, if keyboard or mouse response doesn't unblank it, simply closing and opening the laptop lid unblanks it immediately.
