It appears that hplip-3.9.8-3.4.1.i586 that installs with openSuse is missing a file called models.dat. Running hp-setup shows an error stating "error: Unable to locate models.dat file" and indeed there is no modesl.dat included in the rpm. Back-reving hplip (thanks to jsmeix for his repo!) seems to fix the issue. Is anyone seeing this as well? Thanks in advance for any help.
No, not seeing that, but on a number of HP printers, there's MINIMAL functionality of the tools. 'STILL not fixed. There also was supposed to be 8x10" support in this release, and it's not there.

Thanks for your response Fred. My problem turned out to be caused by a mixture of RPMs from repo-oss and the Packman repo. Once I straightened that out (used everything from repo-oss), the problems cleared up. I hear your problem with missing stuff - I am having a few frustrating issues still. I am fighting and iptables issue now that the hplip issue is resolved, before that there was a kernel booting issue and in between was a grub issue caused by an inplace upgrade. Hopefully this iptables issue will be the last one - it bugs the heck out of me that all this was working just peachy fine with oss 11.1. I will get off of my soapbox now :)
'Been there often enough myself. SOME - clean - installs have gone well, but others not so well. Multimedia is still a pain in the butt with Kaffeine not working. This is ALL stuff that SHOULDN'T have problems. HP SHOULD be working with community code writers to produce VERY good drivers and tools. There's NO excuse for that not happening!
