I have to *manually* supply ip for my hp officejet pro 8620 on hplip and it work wonderfully. Previous color laserjet pro also required manually providing ip, whereas cups find both w/o help. Just check router for ip.
I tried that, didn't work, although I do use it now. I fixed my problem, however. When installing the printer via cups I saw two ppd-files for the 127fw, one for cups, one for hpijs. I always used the cups-driver. Installing the printer with hplip gives as default choice for the driver : /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip-plugin/hp-laserjet_pro_mfp_m127fw-hpijs.ppd.gz, so I used it, but it didn't work. I looked into the hplip-plugin directory and selected this : /usr/share/cups/model/manufacturer-PPDs/hplip-plugin/hp-laserjet_pro_mfp_m127fw.ppd.gz Now the printer works fine.
