I did a clean install of 9.3 yesterday. The problem is that after the install the screen looks hazy than it's previously.
My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 793DF. The product manual says it has a max resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz and a display 312+/-4 mm and 234+/-4 mm. H Sync 30-70 Hz and v Sync 50-160 Hz. I started SaX2 and set all these settings. In SaX2 there's no entry for the monitor I mentioned. So I set to VESA.
I would like to know if any one of you guys have an optimum setting for this monitor or if anything else might help.
These are the lines from xorg.conf (got from Gil, etc. mails).

Chaitanya, As you can see from the part I left in the mail, the settings you say the monitor can do and what was used are quite a bit different. Although you might be capable of 1280 x 1024, I don't think I would run it over 1024 x 768 on a 17" CRT type. Just for the sake of your eyes if nothing else! ;o) Also, when doing settings in Sax2, did you check the monitor list for your model? If it's not there, then choose something very close, out of the Samsung model list, and alter the settings on vertical & horz to match your monitor. Quite likely there is a model very close to yours if not exact. That should take care of the correct settings and give you a good screen. I suspect, from your xorg.conf readings, that 1280x1024 is just too much for that monitor with those settings. You are not getting nearly the scan rates you should. You can also edit the monitor database to add yours, if you like. You might also try the button that says "Have Disk" and use the disk that came with the monitor to get it's readings. good luck, Lee
