Is it possible to use version 0.991.3 with the 5.3 release? And aside from that, are there any problems in using the existing Yast to install the new Yast (since the existing one will be running during the procedure)?
Since YaST is statically linked, it should also work on a 5.3 system, but I cannot give you a guarantee for this. You need to update YaST using rpm: "rpm -Uh yast.rpm". If you experience wierd results, remove the new package with "rpm -e yast" and reinstall the version from CD or the latest one from the 5.3 update directory on our ftp-Server.
