Hello, Fedora has very nicely packaged contribution packages for R (http://www.r-project.org/), try to browse https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/ and they have tools to do it, see http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:R We have http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/devel:/languages:/R:/ but it is practically empty. :-( Well, it would be very nice to have all the tones of R packages from mirrors like http://cran.r-project.org/ , http://www.rforge.net/ or http://www.bioconductor.org/ It is possible to install R's packages using R's tools, but very often it has to be compiled, which can be very tricky. Now, there is now way how to do it easily - just see logs and from errors guess which libraries are required... And sometimes I find, that it requires unavailable packages. Like recent upgrade of RGoogleMaps requiring libpng14, which I didn't find for openSUSE 12.3... But it's just small example...
