1. Go to the cashew in the upper right. Select "Zoom Out".
2. Choose "Configure Plasma" from the menu that is presented.
3. Check "Different activity for each desktop" and the "OK"
4. You should see a magnifying glass with a + inside at the base of a desktop. Click it to "Zoom In".
5. On each desktop you can now right click, go to Desktop Settings, and pick a different wallpaper for each desktop.
That is to change Activity, not to change Desktop.
I don't quite get your point.... The question was.... "How do I get a different wallpaper on each desktop". I have told the asking party how to do it based on the naming conventions used in KDE 4.3. Now, maybe after doing the above you are saying you no longer have 4 desktops but 4 activities? No matter what the names are one gets what they want in the end. -- I know the answer!
