I'm running Ximian Desktop 2 with evolution 1.4, all packages from ximian.com here, and everything is running swimmingly. In fact, this is probably the slickest desktop I've had so far. Maybe you should try it?!
Same thing here runs great, I installed from Ximian.com and I haven't seen any problems. Yes it is slick, finally a mail program that can equal that other OS. John
