packman does not provide libdvdcss, nor the capability to bypass it.
videolan provides libdvdcss
and libdvdcss is still required for many files.
From https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories
VLC VideoLan client:
VLC Repositories for openSUSE contains all the required libraries that are not shipped with original openSUSE. (VLC is also provided by Packman, do not add both repositories.)
Well, whoever wrote that simply forgot about libdvdcss. You only need it if you want to play commercial DVDs.
Are you sure?
AFAICT packman has 1.4.0 from four years ago. VLC has 1.4.2 from 6 months ago. ??
Packman doesn't have the package, I just looked.
What is https://pmbs.links2linux.de/package/show/Essentials/libdvdcss2
Yes, but it is not published. Try to find it here, for instance: <https://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/packman/suse/openSUSE_Leap_15.2/Essentials/> Then, if you look again at the packman build servive, "repositories" tab: <https://pmbs.links2linux.de/repositories/Essentials/libdvdcss2> you notice that publishing is disabled.
I don't know about repository names. What I do know is that yast says the libdvdcss2 I have installed has a URL of http://developers.videolan.org/libdvdcss/
So specifically, it appears to me that all the required packages ARE available from videolan as the web page says and not as you intimate.
Confussion. I did not say that videolan does not have the required packages, but that packman doesn't. Yes, videolan generates the package: Telcontar:~ # rpm -qi libdvdcss2 Name : libdvdcss2 Version : 1.4.2 Release : 1.3 Architecture: x86_64 Install Date: Fri Jan 1 00:48:08 2021 Group : System/Libraries Size : 179509 License : GPL Signature : DSA/SHA1, Sun Jun 28 20:09:07 2020, Key ID b2f796e76867f5be Source RPM : libdvdcss-1.4.2-1.3.src.rpm Build Date : Mon Feb 24 17:44:35 2020 Build Host : messiah Relocations : (not relocatable) Packager : ... Vendor : VideoLAN Project (http://www.videolan.org) URL : http://developers.videolan.org/libdvdcss/ Summary : A library designed for accessing encrypted DVDs Description : libdvdcss is a simple library designed for accessing DVDs like a block device without having to bother about the decryption. Distribution: SuSE / Leap_15.2 Telcontar:~ # It has been generated by the videolan project, yes, but I have it downloaded from http://opensuse-guide.org/repo/openSUSE_Leap_15.2/. It is a fact, I don't have the videolan repo in my list. To know what repository it was actually installed from, a different double query is needed: Telcontar:~ # zypper se --details libdvdcss Loading repository data... Reading installed packages...
