In searching for a new scanner to replace my old one that is now defunct, I have become interested in the Epson V330. This scanner is unsupported by XSane, but Epson has a driver for it. It also has a GUI for this driver, but this GUI is said to support only black and white scanning. My question is if I install this driver, will XSane be able to see it and make use of it? I would be grateful for comments and advice, especially from anyone who has tried this.with an Epson scanner. I have the V300 Photo and it works perfectly (BW, colour, slides, you name it). I suspect that there would be little difference between the drivers for either.
If you look at the Sane site you will see that even my v300 is "unsupported" but it works perfectly as there is a driver, epkowa, which supports it.

Yes, I saw that this whole range of scanners is "unsupported". I'm reasonably sure that the V330 and your V300 is very similar, so I can assume that the epkowa will be seen and used to support the V330.
Thanks...
I was originally going to buy the V330 but the stock ran out and had to buy the V300 Photo. Perfect for my needs - and cost a lot less. But the v330 seems to be a model destined for Australia. Are you also somewhere in Australia? Not that it matters..... The epkowa driver is installable using Yast (search for 'epkowa' in Yast's Software Manager. As for the drivers from Epson, they have a dependency on each other. Which means that the best way to install them is to use the command line 'rpm -i *.rpm' in the directory into which you placed the downloaded 2 parts of the driver.
