I don't think this got sent to the mailing list, and it probably is some good info. Its EXACTLY what was going on! :D Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it! Now to tackle another problem... Blake On Dec 16, 2003, at 5:45 PM, jdv@san.rr.com wrote:
I haven't seen the whole thread on this, so you may have already done this. Turn off the computer and unplug the power for the cable modem for at least three minutes. Repower the cable modem and then power up the system.
Normally, the cable modems remember the last device they talked to and don't want to work with new devices unless they're powered off and back on again. Shutting down may also force the cable modem to seek a new lease or something.
Also, does your cable company do MAC address blocking?

Ok, seems good.
Has that message listed several times (runs every 10 seconds or so) then it reports:
No DHCPOFFERS received.

Gonna have to try to install the dhcp-tools package in a few minutes.>> Blake

DHCP? Check if you got a lease.
/var/lib/dhcp/dhclient.leases
or
/var/lib/dhcpcd/*
Check /var/log/messages for entries concerning dhcp
The package dhcp-tools contains dhcpdump, very usefull!
man dhcpdump.
Got a firewall running? Try first *without* the firewall. If you can get an ip#, try to get one with the firewall on.

And: how many network cards do you hae installed? If it's more than 1, then be sure you have the right one plugged! ;)

I went in to the config tool, turned the firewall on, then turned it off again to make sure it was off. Only one nic in there...
