Hi, I've had problems in the past with booting from the newest distributions (from 8.2). The thread should be in the archives. I've been using the 7.3 distribution up to now and yesterday I tried to install the 8.0 distribution. It worked. Now I'm wondering if I can install the 8.2 and 9.0, without booting from the CD's (downlaoded from a suse mirror), so to avoid the freeze I've always had, when starting the installation (just after "loading kernel"). I'm afraid I had to go with Red Hat, otherwise. I tried and I can boot with their 8.2 without problems. Ah, reagrding my last "cry for help", here, I'd like to tell you I tried the Prime95 program in "stress test" mode. It didn't show any problem. Anyway a user of mine has seti@home running in this server for years... Thank you, Dott. Ermanno Polli INFN-LNF
